Electrical Outlet Requirements
Tonal requires a standard 120V, grounded 3-prong outlet. The outlet should be within 6 feet of the final installation location. If the outlet is more than 6 feet from your preferred installation location, you may use an extension cord that is 6 feet or longer and 14 AWG (or heavier gauge). Tonal does not support the use of power bars (power strips).

Using Surge Protectors
Tonal supports the use of in-outlet surge protectors. The following details outline the specifications for a compatible surge protector:
NEMA 5-15R
14 AWG wire
15A rating
125V
An example in-outlet surge protector that meets these requirements is the Leviton Decora Plus 5280-W. Check with your local electric company for guidance on suggested brands.
Using the Same Outlet for Tonal and Another Device
To avoid overloading electrical circuits, do not plug Tonal into an outlet shared with other permanent appliances that have high energy usage.
Use a 15A dedicated circuit.
Plug Tonal directly into the wall outlet whenever possible.
If an extension cord is required because the outlet is more than 6 feet from the installation location, use an extension cord that is 6 feet or longer and 14 AWG (or heavier gauge).
Do not plug anything else into the same circuit or outlet.
Ensure the outlet supports 15 amps.
Tonal is compatible with a grounded 3-prong GFCI that meets the above-stated specifications.
Moving, Installing, or Concealing Outlets
If you need to move or install an outlet for your Tonal installation, or if you want to conceal the outlet behind Tonal, we recommend working with a certified electrician to determine the best option for the space. Any electrical work needs to be completed prior to your installation date.
Outlets installed above 23 inches from the floor may pose a risk to the installation if positioned directly behind Tonal.
If you plan to conceal the outlet behind Tonal, please follow these specifications:
Install the outlet horizontally at 22.5” from the floor to the center of the horizontal outlet.
Center between the studs, measured to the center of the horizontal outlet.
