How to Change Batteries and Troubleshoot Smart Handles

Refer to the steps below to replace the batteries in your Tonal Smart Handles. Follow these steps for each Smart Handle, working with one at a time.

Steps to Change Batteries in Smart Handles

Before beginning, make sure you have two new AA batteries. You may also need a 2mm hex key (provided in the Tonal Accessory Kit).

Check if the ends of your Smart Handles have a hex screw:
1. If so, use the 2mm hex key from the Tonal Accessory Kit to loosen the screw. Rotate the hex screw three times counterclockwise.
2. If not, continue to step 2.
Squeeze the buttons on the end of the Smart Handle to pull off the end.
If your Smart Handles don’t have a hex screw, you only need to squeeze one button.
Slide the black plastic cover off the Smart Handle.
Replace the AA battery. Ensure the battery is oriented properly following the diagram in the battery compartment.
Replace the black plastic cover and lock the end of the Smart Handle back in place.
If required, tighten the hex screw in the Smart Handle by turning clockwise.
Please make sure the hex screw is snug, but not overtightened. This can result in a stripped screw.
