Muscle Recovery on Tonal
Muscle recovery is a key component of working out, especially after finishing a series of intense workouts. Thankfully, there are a number of ways you can promote muscle recovery on Tonal! The best part is, you can do it without breaking your streak or affecting your Strength Score. To focus on recovery on Tonal, you can:
Activate the Recovery Toggle
Perform Active Recovery Workouts
Utilize the Muscle Readiness Feature
Activating the Recovery Toggle
Who says you have to skip workouts to recover? Your Tonal allows you to deload between heavy lifting periods and makes it easy to do so with the recovery toggle. All you have to do is select the workout and choose the option for recovery weight on the workout details page.

When you choose the recovery weight option, Tonal automatically reduces your suggested weight down to 80 percent of your typical suggested weight, which is ideal for recovery. This will let you crush your goals, maintain your streak, and above all, it won’t affect your Strength Score! The idea is to give you an option to tackle soreness and improve your range of motion. This feature is available across the entire workout and on individual moves for all Coach-led workouts as well as Custom Workouts. It is currently unavailable in Free Lift workouts.
Active Recovery Workouts
Tonal has specially curated Coach-led Active Recovery workouts that are programmed with recovery moves. These workouts automatically reduce your suggested weights and help restore your muscles by focusing on mobility and stability. Similar to using the recovery toggle, the lifts in each of these workouts will automatically be set to 80 percent of your typical suggested weight.
Utilizing the Muscle Readiness Feature
Keep an eye on your muscles so you can make decisions based on which muscles are in recovery and which are ready for action! This feature shows you which muscle groups are fresh, recovering, and fatigued based on your recent Tonal workouts. In addition to the filter on the “Explore” page, your personalized Muscle Readiness overview is also available on the workout details and summary pages.
The view is also available on the homepage of the Tonal mobile app, where you can find workout recommendations based on your muscle readiness. Just click on “Explore Workouts” to get started!

You can either use the Muscle Readiness feature as a guide and decide what workouts you’d like to do based on your recent activity or engage the recovering and/or fatigued muscle group by using the recovery weight toggle or opting for an active recovery workout.
