Supported Wall Materials

Our professional installation partners can deliver and install Tonal wherever you’d like as long as the space passes the on-site assessment. We recommend selecting two potential installation spaces if one space doesn’t pass. Our installers can't complete the delivery if your preferred installation locations don’t meet the minimum installation requirements.

Never fear – this is where we come in. Let’s go over one important aspect of Tonal’s installation requirements: wall materials.

Choosing the Right Wall for Tonal Installation

Picking your preferred spot isn’t as simple as considering placement. You need to ensure that the space you choose has a wall that our installers can safely attach Tonal to – mainly, this means that Tonal needs to be installed on studs that are securely fastened to both the floor and ceiling joists within six (6) feet of an outlet.

That said, not all walls are created equal for your new trainer, so here’s a helpful guide to show you which walls are best:

These wall types are APPROVED:

  • Drywall or sheetrock

  • Solid, poured concrete with no added material.

  • CMU (can be approved after further review)

These materials MAY BE APPROVED, provided the additional requirements are met:

These materials are NOT APPROVED, and we’ve included why for some of these below:

  • Solid concrete with added material

  • PVC

  • Superior walls (Tonal installation is not approved by the manufacturer)

  • Owens Corning insulated board (these walls contain light insulation with metal studs, which can be incompatible with Tonal installation)

  • Metal studs with foam insulation (the toggle won’t open for Tonal installation)

  • ICF (Insulated concrete forms

  • Aluminum (this metal is light gauge, which is not suitable for Tonal)

  • 2 x 2 wood walls (this wall type doesn’t pass the flex load requirement for Tonal)

  • Venner brick

  • Brick

Some wall materials, such as drywall, are easy to patch with hole repair kits. You can also find some special patch kits if you have a concrete wall. Wallpaper and 18th-century wood paneling are more difficult to patch.

Our installers always take the utmost care to limit the damage to your walls, but they can’t eliminate it. Remember this when picking your preferred installation space(s).
