Track Your Strength Like Never Before with Tonal's Workout Volume

Ever wondered how much strength you're building with each Tonal workout? Meet Workout Volume—a powerful metric that shows the total weight you’ve lifted in a session. It’s calculated by multiplying your reps by the weight used for each move, giving you a crystal-clear view of your effort and progress.

From single exercises to full-body programs, Workout Volume helps you measure your gains, set new goals, and celebrate every milestone on your strength journey. It's more than a number—it’s proof of how far you’ve come.

FAQs:

  • What is Tonal’s workout volume number?

Volume number is a conventional metric used in strength training, calculated by the number of reps you do for an on-trainer movement multiplied by the weight you lift for that movement.

  • Where can I find my volume number?

After completing a Tonal workout, your volume number will appear in the workout summary on the trainer or in the Tonal mobile app. You can also find your total volume number, plus previous volume stats, on Tonal or in the app’s Profile page.

  • Why are bodyweight-only movements no longer counted in the calculation?

Effective March 9, 2020. Since you don’t physically interact with Tonal during body weight movements, we don’t count these reps, and therefore volume. Excluding bodyweight-only movements ensures that your data is accurate and reliable.

  • How can I get credit for bodyweight-only movements?

Your “workout duration” and “time under tension” stats account for bodyweight-only movements.

  • Will this impact my Volume historical data?

Volume numbers for your previous workouts will also be updated so that you can track your progress consistently.

  • Will this impact my Strength Score?

No! Strength Score is only calculated using on-Tonal movements.
