Clean Tonal’s screen and surfaces (Click to expand)

Here’s how to give Tonal a good clean:

  1. Activate Screen Cleaning Mode:

    1. Pull down the menu at the top of your trainer.

    2. Click on the Tonal icon.

    3. Select the Screen Cleaning.

  2. Wipe down Tonal surfaces, equipment, and accessories twice — first with an ammonia-free cleaner, followed by a bleach-free disinfectant — with a microfiber cloth.

Inspect Tonal’s cables for safety (Click to expand)

When we inspect Tonal’s cables, we need to:

  • Look out for any signs of wear

  • Ensure the cable is centered between and running parallel to the bolts in the track

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn the weight to 5lbs and put the arm in the highest track position.

  2. Examine the cables closely for any signs of wear.

  3. Set the weight to 15 lbs in Free Lift Mode.

  4. Attach a Smart Handle if one isn’t already attached.

  5. Pull the cable to full extension to inspect the entire length.

  6. Repeat on the other side.

Check Tonal’s arm functionality (Click to expand)

Tonal’s arms should move only when released by the appropriate levers or buttons, and in a controlled manner.

To check arm height functionality:

  1. Move each arm to at least three different height positions.

  2. Press down on the arm firmly to confirm that they lock securely.

To check arm angle functionality:

  1. Adjust the arm to at least three different angle positions.

  2. Press down on the arm firmly to confirm that they lock securely.

To check arm rotation functionality:

  1. Test every rotation setting.

  2. Press down on the arm firmly to confirm that they lock securely.

Inspect your Smart Accessories and trainer body (Click to expand)

It’s a good idea to check the following areas and accessories to ensure they will continue to function as expected:

  • Smart Handle straps: Check the nylon straps on your Smart Handles and Bar for any signs of wear. Stop use immediately if the straps appear worn.

  • Weight buttons: Toggle the weight "on" using the accessory buttons. You should hear a sound effect and see the weight dial move on screen.

  • Trainer body: Check the front and sides of the unit for rust, large scratches, or weathering.

Keeping up with software updates (Click to expand)

We recommend performing regular power cycles to ensure the latest software has been installed properly. You can check the software and firmware versions on your trainer to make sure they’re up-to-date.

After you finish your workout, always set Tonal to Sleep Mode (do not turn off completely) so it can perform background software updates.
